Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

David wrote this three thousand years ago with no microscope, no scan, no picture of what happens inside a mother before a baby is born. And he got it right.

Covered me in my mother's womb. Made in secret. And then the phrase that should stop you: *in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. A written record of every part of you — before any of the parts existed.*

We now know there is one. It is called DNA, and it is a written code inside almost every cell of your body, and it was complete on the first day of your life. Every instruction for your bones, your eyes, the shape of your hands, the sound of your voice — written down before a single one of those things existed.

You began as one cell. That cell divided into two, then four, and by the time you were born you were made of trillions, of hundreds of different kinds, every one carrying the same book, each one reading only its own chapter. A liver cell and a brain cell hold identical instructions and build entirely different things.

David could not have known any of that. He knew the One who wrote the book, and that turned out to be enough.
