Proverbs 23:6-8

Stay away from the table of a stingy, grudging man, however fine the spread. His mouth says "Eat! Drink!" but his heart is somewhere else entirely, counting the cost of every bite and resenting you for it — the evil eye peeps out from behind the dainty dishes and gives him away. Sit there and you will end up sickened by the whole charade, the food turned to disgust, your pleasant dinner-conversation wasted on a man who never meant a word of his welcome. Now set against that grim host the great Host of the gospel, and feel the difference: when Christ spreads His table there is no evil eye, no grudging, no hidden calculation — He says "Eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved" (Song of Solomon 5:1), and His whole heart is in it. To suspect the sincerity of the gospel invitation is to accuse the God who is "abundant in goodness and truth" (Exodus 34:6) of having an evil eye. He does not.
