Proverbs 2:20-22

Verse 20 reveals what all the rescuing was for. Wisdom does not just pull you out of bad company and leave you standing alone in a parking lot — it walks you into good company: "the way of good men... the paths of the righteous." It is not enough to shun the evil way; a man has to actually walk the good one, and you will become whoever you walk with. Chapter 1 warned you about the crew that recruits for death; chapter 2 ends by telling you to go find the crew that walks toward life — and in our day that means planting yourself among God's people in a good Bible-believing church, not doing faith as a solo act.

Verses 21–22 close with two destinies, and here we need to rightly divide the word of truth, because this promise has an address on it. "The upright shall dwell in the land" — the land is Canaan, the covenant land God promised to Israel. Under the Law, Israel's lease on that land ran on obedience: obey and remain, rebel and be rooted out (Deuteronomy 4:40). And that is exactly how the history played out — the Canaanites were rooted out for their sin, Israel was planted, and when Israel turned to the same sins, Israel too was carried away. The promise looks forward to Israel's kingdom, when "the meek shall inherit the earth" (Matthew 5:5) under her Messiah. That is Israel's program: an earthly land, an earthly kingdom, an earthly hope.

Your hope, believer, sits higher. The Body of Christ is "blessed... with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ" (Ephesians 1:3), told to seek "those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God" (Colossians 3:1). God did not promise you acreage; He promised you Himself, and a position in His Son that no failure of yours can repossess.

But do not let the dispensational line erase the principle, because the principle is in force in every age: "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap" (Galatians 6:7). Two ways of walking, two ways of ending. Men traveling opposite directions do not arrive at the same place — no matter what the culture, the algorithm, or their own hearts promise them. The wicked may possess plenty for a season, but they hold it like squatters — usurpers awaiting eviction. The upright hold their inheritance by right, from their Father. Walk accordingly.
